Well, this was an out of the ordinary weekend for me.  Most of the time, I have a hard time getting rid of things.  On Saturday, when we were cleaning out the garage, I was in a “let’s just get rid of it” mood.  I like to take advantage of this mindset, because it doesn’t come around very often.

We decided to just go for it and have a garage sale on a Sunday. We put a post on craigslist the night before and put up some signs this morning and that was it for advertising.  We’d decided to start at 8am before we realized that it was time for daylight savings.  Ug, we are not early risers and the thought of waking an hour earlier on a weekend, was a bit of a bummer. Between 8 and 9 in the morning we had quite a crowd in our driveway and sold a number of items, but then things slowed down and we only had a few customers the rest of the morning.  And then, of course, as soon as I had the thought to start putting things away, business picked up again. In the end we made a little more room in our garage and a couple hundred bucks. Not too shabby.

I did put a respectable pile of things out with a craigslist “curb alert” at the end of the day, but I will admit that some things did go back into the garage, much to the chagrin of my husband. After most everything was put away, I was glad that we had taken advantage of my willingness to purge, because the willingness was already starting to wane.  My husband said that someone from craigslist wanted to buy our stroller, but by this time my true nature had taken over once again and I began to panic.  I couldn’t let it go.

We have three strollers.  A single stroller that I love and use every day and two double strollers that I hate.  It would be great to have a double stroller that I at least like, but I think that would cost us close to a grand and I am not willing to spend that right now. I needed to give the stroller another chance.

In the end, I got rid of some things and I’m going to be proud of myself for that.  The neighbors are talking about having a joint sale in April, so maybe I can talk myself into doing this again in a month.

As a reward for my bravery (fyi: I know this is ridiculous), I’m thinking of ordering these turquoise bistro chairs for our courtyard with what we made at the sale. They are only $30 at Kmart, so I won’t be spending all of what we made and they don’t take up nearly as much room as what we had in that space before this weekend.  I’ve been wanting this type of chair for quite some time. And the courtyard is my next home project…so here we go!
