Last week we had my cousin, her fiance and his twin brother staying with us. We had originally invited them to stay when we had decent guest accommodations up in my husband’s office apartment above the garage. Since then, however, we’ve rented office space on Main Street and my brother has moved in to the apartment above the garage.  Our guests ended up having to sleep in the playroom and living room and when my brother was at work overnight, they slept in his place upstairs.

At the end of the week, we (along with other family) hosted a small engagement party out on the beach. Towards the end of the evening, we all ended up inside because it was getting windy and chilly. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves despite the cold, I sure liked the coziness when everyone crowded into the house. I think everyone was so motivated to get warm that it took three minutes to take everything down that had taken us 45 minutes to put up.

Our event set-up included my parents’ canopy and a few tables and chairs and blankets. The meal was potluck. We had cheese and crackers and number of tasty sides. I cheated made it easy on myself by bringing pre-made salads from Costco. My aunt brought mouth watering pulled pork and rolls and her daughters made the desserts. We also used Costco to get some photos from their wedding website enlarged for decorations. I was excited about putting together flower arrangements in the boxes we used as center-pieces for our own wedding. I made them the night before and kept them in the fridge which was probably too cold for flowers. For a day and a half , every time I opened the fridge I smiled.

Two bunches of mixed flowers including white roses, chrysanthemums and hydrangeas, deep purple and green buttons, and other greens made up most of the flower arrangements. To fill some of the empty space I stuck some key limes in one box and clipped off a few branches from my collection of backyard Pittosporum for the other. I really like this look with the tree branches full of tiny leaves behind the photo card. This is going to be used again, for sure.

For favors, I just grabbed a large container of chocolate covered peanuts at Costco and filled little plastics baggies. I tied little wallet photos of the couple to the baggies and brought them out the the sand in our wire fruit tower.

I had a lot of fun taking photos of the kids down by the water against the setting sun and pier.
